About
Hello!
I'm so glad you are here. I'm Coleen, a clinical herbalist here to help you achieve your health goals through one-on-one consultations where together we create herbal remedies and discuss options for best nutrition and lifestyle practices. My goal is to understand your health journey thus far, and gently offer guidance to help you get to where you want to be.
"Slow and steady wins the race" is a phrase I repeat often to myself, my family and clients alike, as a powerful reminder that in this distracted, fast paced world we live in, we often forget that real change requires time, consistency, patience; and most of all, self love and compassion. It is also tremendously helpful to have someone there who is looking out for your best interest and can offer consistent support along the way.
My backstory
After graduating college, I spent years working in design, but my greatest role by far has been mother to my three daughters with whom I am forever in love and awe. It was because of my girls I initially dove into herbal medicine many years ago, looking to support their small, sensitive bodies with natural remedies free from GMOs, parabens and all other unnecessary ingredients. We grew a garden, raised chickens and nearly everything we put on or in our bodies was made from scratch.
And yet, all the healthy eating and herbal medicine in the world are only part of the picture, so I began to study Reiki with the intention of creating a relaxed and positive energetic space for our family. In October of 2013 I became a Reiki Master with Melissa Love at Mosaic Yoga. Inspired by the way Reiki changed my life for the better, I offered Reiki sessions to my family, friends, and volunteered with Sharp Rees Stealy Memorial Hospital, offering Reiki to patients prior to surgery.
In July of 2017 I began working for a naturopathic medical center and have had the honor of working with some of the best and brightest naturopaths in San Diego, witnessing remarkable healing journeys along the way. As Lead Patient Care Coordinator and Naturopathic Assistant, part of my job has been to review and clarify doctors' protocols. After a few years, I found myself seeking a deeper and broader understanding of herbal medicine, and a desire to really get to the heart of how it worked and why. I had also been working to resolve my own issues with the chronic insomnia I had been experiencing since adolescence, and was ready to take a deep dive into the inner workings of herbal medicine.
So in December of 2020 I began the journey of becoming a certified herbalist with the Self Heal School of Herbal Studies and Healing, and have since been working with organic and wildcrafted herbs as allies to support others on their healing paths. I say "work with" rather than "use" as the key words here, as I've discovered plant medicine to be highly intelligent. Plants have been on this planet far longer than we humans have, and I believe they hold a deep wisdom we can only begin to understand and aspire to connect with. Our plant allies assist us in slowly but surely moving to a place of higher functionality. This progression is expedited by the daily lifestyle choices we make, ultimately coming together synchronistically to create a positive and lasting shift within body, mind and spirit.
We can work with herbs to calm inflammation, to increase circulation, support digestion, balance hormones, build stronger neural connections, improve sleep, lessen brain fog, reduce fatigue. The support is endless, but the key is to know the compounds, elements and personalities of these sentient plants and craft them deliberately into an intentional formula.
This is where my design brain kicks in, and is the art of herbal medicine.
Whew, well that's a lot about me! And now I invite you to reach out and let me know about you! I am so happy to say hello, answer any questions you might have about working with me as an herbalist, energy worker, or both. Please take a look at the calendar and schedule a time that works for you. I very much look forward to meeting you!
